2-28-09 Perez Places 5th in State Open
2-21-09 Wethersfield Wrestlers Place in Class L Tournament Team Captains James Queiros and Diego Perez stood on the medal stand to receive awards after two days of intense wrestling at this year's Class L tournament, which was held at Bristol Central High School. Senior Captain James Queiros, a 6th seed wrestler with a 23-6 season record dominated his first round match with a 19-4 decision over Dainius Lancinskas of Conard. James lost the next round with a close 4-3 loss to 3rd seed, Michael Sheehan of Fairfield-Ludlowe. Dropping down to the "wrestle backs", Queiros came back with a strong 12-1 decision over Maloney's Charles Medina, followed by another decisive 12-2 win over Jordan Tharp of Middletown. After advancing another round by default James again faced Sheehan of Fairfield-Ludlowe, this time defeating him 7-4, earning his Third Place Class L title. Senior Captain Diego Perez, a 3rd seed wrestler with an impressive 23-1 season record defeated his first opponent with 6-2 win over Luke Masselia of Daniel-Hand. Diego dropped down to the "wrestle back" rounds after loosing his next match in a close 5-4 contest against Platt's Eric Francks. Diego worked his way back with a close 3-1 win over Andrew Bove of Woodstock Academy, followed by a 4-1 decision over Farmington's Andrew Rivera. Diego's next match resulted in a 6-1 win over Andrew Golden of New Milford. Perez was unable to overcome his last opponent in a battle for 3rd place, finishing the day with a 4th Place Class L title, after a 7-0 loss to Ryan Carbonell of Bristol Central. Both WHS wrestlers now advance to the State Open Tournament, to be held next weekend at the New Haven Athletic Center, where they will face off against the top four wrestlers from each Class S, M, L and LL schools. 1-29-09 Manchester 50 Wethersfield 27 1-16-09 Wethersfield placed 4th this weekend at the Greater Hartford Open. This years tournament, held at Hartford Public High School provided some tough competition from fourteen area schools. The WHS 4th place finish followed : 3rd Place Conard, 2nd Place Hall, and 1st place South Windsor. Nine WHS wrestlers received medals this weekend: 1st Place - 125 lbs. 12-30-08 Wethersfield Wrestlers suffered a 60-15 loss against South Windsor. Earning points for WHS were Diego Perez (decision), James Queiros (pin), and Subby Buccheri (pin). The match up with Branford was cancelled. Next event will be on Saturday, January 3rd at Rockville, 10 AM - Teams scheduled for the Dual meet format matches are Classical Magnet, Enfield, Platt and Rockville.
12-27-08 Wethersfield places fourth in the George Kisluk Tournament. Wethersfield placed fourth in this weekends Rocky Hill Invitational held at the Classical Magnet School. Seven WHS wrestlers advanced to the final rounds to receive medals.

12-23-08 Wethersfield wins its first conference match of the season, defeating Windsor 63 -15. Although Windsor fielded a team of about 18 wrestlers, they were unable to fill all weight classes and gave up six matches by forfeit at 112,119,130,135, and 145 lbs. Lauren Pinney, (103), started off the match with a 25-20 decision. At 125 lbs., Matt Martel recorded a pin at the end of the 1st period. Another quick pin was added to the score at the 140 lb. weight class. This was followed by a pin by Malik McGarrah, (152), with 12 seconds left in his bout. Jay Queiros scored a 2nd period pin at 171 lbs and John Fabie ended the match with an early 1st period pin over his opponent.
