February 6th - Wethersfield vs. Windsor

Wethersfield concluded their dual meet schedule with a 54 - 28 win over Windsor High School. Winning their last dual meet match of the year by pins were: Ian Wells, Diego Perez, Jon Fields, Dave Schuberth, Dion Maffucci, James Queiros. 

February 2nd - Senior Night (Day) at Wethersfield High School

Prior to the start of the East Hartford match seven Seniors were recognized for their contributions to the wrestling team.  This will be the last home match for the following Senior wrestlers:

The WHS team recorded a sound win over East Hartford High ending in a 47 -27 Victory.  James Queiros started off the match at 171 lbs. with a 1st period pin at 1:45.  Rob Midura put another 3 points on the board with a 16-12 decision. Mark Schuberth stepped out onto the mat and recorded 6 more points for the Eagles without breaking a sweat. Ian Wells recorded a quick fall at :51 seconds into the match, which was followed up with pins by Diego Perez, and Pat Fern. Jon Fields won a major decision (21-5) over his opponent. Followed by two quick pins by Dion Maffucci  (:50) and Dariel Gonzales (:41).

1/23  Hall versus Wethersfield

Wethersfield's hopes of winning the CCC West Conference title seems to be slipping away with a tough 62 -16 loss to Hall of West Hartford.  Only three wrestlers managed to score against the up and coming Hall team. Diego Perez improved to a 22-2 record this season with a 9-1 decision over Darren Appanah. James Queiros pinned his 171 pound opponent, Geoff DesRosiers,  in the 2nd period at 3:40. Dan Pagliarello, (285 lb), after a close match, took down Matt Berman in the third period and pined his opponent at 4:38.

This brings Wethersfield's record to 5-7  overall and 1-2 in the CCC West Conference.

1/19 Charter Oak Dual  Results

Wethersfield wrestlers started the day with a CCC West conference match against Conard, hoping to repeat last years win. The Eagles began the match earning a quick six points with a second period pin by Mark Shuberth. Losses at the 112 and 119 weight classes had the Eagles down by 6 points.  The score turned around with a 14-4 decision by Diego Perez followed up with pins by Will Morin and Jon Fields. Pat Fern earned a 9-2 decision, then Dave Shuberth put another 3 points on the board with a 6-2 decision, advancing Wethersfield to a 28 - 12 lead over Conard. Wethersfield would win only one more match at the 171 pound class, with James Queiros scoring a 10 -5 decision.  Final Score Conard 42 - Wethersfield 32. Results for the day are as follows:

Jan. 9th - Wethersfield defeats Maloney   44 - 28


Jan. 5th - 4 Wrestlers Place at Spartan Invitational


The Wethersfield High School Wrestling Team attended the annual Spartan Invitational Wrestling Tournament at Maloney High School in Meriden on Saturday, January 5, 2008.  Thirteen high schools were represented, coming from as far as Fairfield.  It was a long day starting at 6:45 am,  a delayed start of the tournament, followed by numerous problems with the tournament brackets, but at the end of the day, WHS wrestlers had four place winners: Diego Perez, for the 125 weight class was awarded the gold medal for 1st place after winning all his  matches, 2 of which were won with a pin; Jonathan Fields for the 135 weight class was awarded the bronze medal for 3rd place after winning 2 of his 4 matches with a pin; Dariel Gonzalez, for the 160 weight class was also awarded the bronze medal for 3rd place after winning 3 of his 4 matches with a pin; and James Queiros for the 165 weight class, took 4th place.

On Wednesday, January 9th the Wethersfield Eagle Wrestlers were matched at home against Maloney High School.  The Wethersfield varsity team won with a final score of 44 to 28.  The following wrestlers assisted in adding to that score with a pin against their Maloney opponents: Diego Perez (125), Pat Fern (135), Dave Schuberth (145), Dariel Gonzalez (160) and Sam Marszycki (189). Jonathan Fields (135), Dion Maffucci (152) and James Queiros (171) assisted in adding to the score with decisions in their favor. 

The Wethersfield Wrestlers will continue their sporting events this month on Friday and Saturday, January 11th and 12th at the Greater Hartford Invitational at East Hartford High School; Wednesday, January 16th against and at Weaver High School; Saturday, January 19th, the Charter Oak Duals at WHS; Wednesday, January 23rd against Hall High School at WHS; and Saturday, January 26th the Portland Duals at Portland High School.

Dec. 22 - WHS Wrestling Places 6th at Rocky Hill

Four Wethersfield wrestlers placed at this year's George Kisluk Invitational tournament in Rocky Hill. Although the team wasn't able to repeat last year's 1st place win, the Eagles showed a lot of talent throughout the day, ending up in 6th place out of a field of 16 teams. Southington took top honors for the day.

Dec. 19th - Eagles soar over E.O. Smith

Wethersfield improved their dual meet record to 3-0 with a convincing victory over E.O. Smith. With a final score of 53-26 the eagles had pins from Dan Pagliarello, Paul Signorello, Mark Schuberth, Dion Maffucci and Dariel Gonzales. Pat Fern chipped in with a 19-4 technical fall at 140. Also Diego Perez, Will Morin and James Queiros earned the team points in forfeits.


Dec. 15  - WHS Wrestling takes 6th place at Indian Classic

Junior captain Diego Perez brings home a second place medal after going 1-1 at the 5th annual Farmington Invitational. Perez in a small weight class only had two matches, he won his semi-final match and went on to face Luke Walsh (runner-up at 112 in the Class L State Tournament last year). Perez fell to Walsh 11-3. 

Junior Dariel Gonzales placed third with a pin against Farmington’s 160 in the second period.

Senior Captain Dave Schuberth finished his day off in 4th place along with seniors Dion Maffucci and Dan Pagliarello.

As a team Wethersfield placed 6th overall with a team score of 95 points. Bacon Academy took home the team championship with a team score of 230.5 crushing 4 time tournament winners Farmington who finished in second with 205 team points

Dec. 12th   - Wethersfield Wrestling off to a good start

The Eagles began the season with a pair of decisive wins, starting with an impressive 66 -12 win over Cheney Tech, followed up by a 60-21 win over Enfield.

This year's team is lead by captains John Fields, Diego Perez, and David Schuberth.

The 60-21 win over Enfield included pins by Ian Wells, Diego Perez, Will Morin, Pat Fern, Dave Schuberth, Dariel Gonzalez, James Queiros, and Rigo Cruz.

Saturday the team will participate in the Farmington Invitational Tournament at Farmington High School - The action is scheduled to begin at 9:30 AM .
